5 NGOs receive grants under Australia’s direct aid prog

Desk Report |

Five Bangladeshi non-government organizations (NGOs) involved in community development in Bangladesh have received Australian government grants under the Direct Aid Programme (DAP) 2018 -19. Australian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Julia Niblett presented Tk 17,775,362 (AUD 289, 971) to the NGOs in a ceremony at the Australian High Commission on Thursday.

Funding selected NGOs to support useful activities under the Australian government’s DAP programme complements Australia’s bilateral development assistance, said the Australian High Commissioner. The NGOs participating in the 2018-19 DAP round are, HYSAWA (Hygiene, Sanitation and Water Supply), Good Neighbors Bangladesh (GNB), Bandhu Social Welfare Society (Bandhu), Society for People's Action in Change and Equity (SPACE) and YPSA (Young Power in Social Action).

In 2016-17 Australia supported 863 DAP projects in 112 countries. Projects helped people with disabilities, provided small-scale infrastructure, encouraged community income generation and improved people’s health.
