BRUR to construct buildings named after four national leaders

Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) will construct four new buildings named after the four national leaders who were killed inside Dhaka Central Jail on November 3 in 1975.

Vice Chancellor of BRUR Prof Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah today announced this while speaking at a discussion on the Jail Killing Day organized by “Muktijouddher Chetanay Progotisheel Shikkhak Somaj at Physics Gallery on the campus on Friday (3th November).

“Four new buildings will be constructed named after four late national leaders here . . . Besides a research unit will be set up at university’s Dr Wazed Research Institute commemorating the late national leaders, close associates of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” the BRUR VC said.

Four slain Awami League and national leaders are: former Vice-President Syed Nazrul Islam, former Prime Ministers of Bangladesh Tajuddin Ahmed and Captain (Retd) Mansur Ali and former Home Minister AHM Quamruzzaman.

The VC added: “It has become the demand of the time to do so. We will obviously start working on it after getting approval of the university syndicate.”

Teachers’ association convener Dr Abu Kalam M Farid Ul Islam presided over the discussion.

Bangabandhu Parishad convener Prof Dr RM Hafizur Rahman, Prof Dr Sarifa Salowa Dina, Arts Faculty Dean Prof Dr Porimol Chandra Barman, Prof Dr Gazi Majharul Anower of Physics Department and Associate Prof Moshiur Rahman of Mathematics Department, among others, took part in the discussion.
