Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain today suggested institution of an exclusive university for law saying it was now a demand of time to develop law and justice sector.

“I would like to urge educationists and jurists like Barrister Rafique-Ul Haque to establish a separate university for law . . . this will further enrich the standard of legal education and research in our country,” he told a function to mark handing over of Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Gold Medal-2017 for scholars on the Ahsanullah Science and Technology University campus at Tejgaon area.

Hossain said those who would take the task of founding a university for legal affairs studies would be remembered by the future generation jurists and legal practitioners for their contribution.

Prominent jurist Barrister Rafique-Ul Haque received the medal this time.

The chief justice Hoque lauded Hoque’s outstanding contribution to the legal arena and services to society saying he contributed a lot in safeguarding the image of the judiciary, establishing rule of law and separating judiciary from the executive.

“He has given valuable opinions as amicus curiae in different important cases. His opinions were reflected in the verdicts of different important cases. Barrister Hoque also played important role in different national transition periods,” Justice Hossain added.

The chief justice also thanked Ahsania Mission for awarding Barrister Hoque.

Presided over by National Professor Dr Anisuzzaman, the function was also addressed by former chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Dr Mohammad Abdul Mazid and former Attorney General AF Hassan Ariff.
