Conference on “Law, Justice and Society” begins at DU

A two-day Advocate Ozair Farooq Memorial Law Conference on “Law, Justice and Society” began today at Dhaka University (DU). 

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain inaugurated the conference as chief guest. Faculty of Law has arranged the event at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman presided over the inaugural function while Attorney General Advocate Mahbubey Alam and President of Supreme Court Bar Association Advocate Zainul Abedin addressed it as special guests.

Syed Mahmud Hossain recalled the contribution of late Advocate Ozair Farooq to promote legal profession in the country. He also thanked the organizers for arranging the conference. “The conference would create a common platform for young law academicians to develop legal research,” the Chief Justice said.

Former Chairman of National Human Rights Commission Prof. Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ekramul Haque and Barrister Mohammad Imtiaz Farooq also spoke on the occasion.

Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said the conference would enhance cooperation and interaction among the academicians, law practitioners and legal researchers. Academicians, researchers and human rights activists from different universities and organizations are participating in the conference.

Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Md. Rahmat Ullah gave the welcome speech. Acting Chairman of the Department of Law Prof. Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam gave vote of thanks. Ozair Farooq, a Senior Advocate of Bangladesh Supreme Court, was born in 1947 and died in 2007. (Bss)
