DU to remember Jagannath Hall tragedy day

Desk Report |

The Dhaka University (DU) authorities will remember the mourning day of October 15, popularly known Jagannath Hall tragedy day, in a befitting manner.

The day is observed every year to pay homage to the memory of the students, employees and guests, who were killed in a tragic accident in Jagannath Hall on the fateful night of 15th October, 1985.

On that night, the roof of the dilapidated building of the Jagannath Hall TV room collapsed, leaving 39 students, guests and employees of the University dead and hundreds others injured.

Marking the tragedy, the DU authorities have chalked out a series of programmes, including mourning procession, placing wreaths at the memorial on the Jagannath Hall premises, hoisting black flags and university flag at half mast at all buildings, offering special prayers at different halls and donating blood.

DU teachers, students and officials will take part in the mourning procession which will start from the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla at 7:30 am.  Apart from this, ‘October Memory Composition Competition’ and ‘October Memory Drawing Competition’ will also be organized on the day.
