Four held over SSC paper leakage

Staff Reporter |

Four persons were arrested Thursday in connection with the leakage of the Secondary School Certificate Examination’s religion and moral education paper , two of them coaching centre officials at Tangail and the two others SSC examinees at Faridpur.

Parents as well as many of the examinees expressed dismay over the arrests saying that the paper was leaked in the social media in the morning, at least 75 minutes before the examination began.

On Thursday (08 Feb), SSC examinees in the capital found it quite difficult to arrive at examination halls on time as all sorts of public transports had virtually disappeared from the streets in the wake of the authorities setting up security ahead of a court giving the verdict in a case against former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Parents complained that earlier at least three other SSC papers were leaked.

Affected examinees and their parents blasted the education ministry for its recurrent failure to stop the leakage of SSC papers.

They said that the eyewash steps taken by the education ministry yielded no results.

The education ministry said the coaching centres were kept shut during the entire duration of the SSC exams and the examinees were asked to take their seats at the exam halls 30 minutes before the exams begin.

A probe committee appointed by the education ministry on February 4 could produce no results.

On the same day the education ministry declared a bounty of Tk five lakh for anyone helping in the identification of people involved with the exam paper leakage. But this also brought no visible results.

On Thursday coaching centre officials, Shahidul Islam and Rasel Parvez were arrested at Bhuapur, Tangail for their alleged involvement with the day’s paper leakage.

Bhuapur upazila nirbahi officer Sharif Ahmed told New Age Tangail correspondent that the two coaching centre officials were arrested in the morning when they were found posting the leaked paper on the Facebook.

At Faridpur, SSC examinees Suman Sikder and Sajib Pramanik were arrested allegedly for leaking the same paper, Sadarpur police station officer in-charge Harun-or-Rashid told New Age.

Parents said that they were shocked to see that just like three other previous papers, on Thursday too another paper was posted on several groups of the Whatsapp and the Facebook.

An examinee appearing from the Monipur School and College told New Age that at 8.41 AM on Thursday leaked paper was posted on two Facebook groups: ‘PSC. JSC. SSC. HSC Exam Helping Centre’ and ‘Psc Jsc Ssc Hsc Reall Out Question All Board 100% Common.’

But Dhaka Education Board’s acting chairman Shahedul Khabir Chowdhury dismissed the allegation as baseless saying that the leaked MCQs did not match the paper on the basis of which examinees wrote their scripts at the exam halls.

Thousands of examinees were seen walking down to exam halls as their anxious and long wait for public transports proved useless.

‘After walking for over half an hour, I found an auto-rickshaw but the driver charged double the fare to take me to my exam hall at the Government Laboratory School from Mirpur section 2’ said SSC examinee Lamia Tahsin Ahmed of Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad Public College.
