Girls take lead over boys

Girls have taken a significant lead over boys in succeeding Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations in 2017 as 70.43 per cent girls have passed while the rate is 67.61 for boys.

The overall rate of absent in the exam was 1.78 per cent for girls while the rate is 2.11 per cent for boys.

The girls took lead in succeeding HSC exam in seven out of eight general education boards and that in technical board. The boys took a small lead in the exam in Comilla and madrasha education boards.

Out of 548,382 female candidates, 538,595 appeared in the exam and passed 379,321. Out of 638,234 male candidates, 624,775 appeared in the exam and passed 422,390, according to the data available with the education ministry.

The result of HSC- 2017 was made public after education minister Nurul Islam Nahid held a press briefing at his ministry at 1:00 pm Sunday. Earlier on the day, he along with the chairmen of all the education boards handed over a summary of the result.

In Dhaka board, 71.41 per cent passed out of 162,062 female examinees and 68.16 per cent out of 171,676 male examinees. The rate of absence in the exam is 0.84 per cent for girls and that 1.34 per cent for boys.

In Rajshahi board, 76.01 per cent passed out of 54,774 female examinees and 67.46 per cent passed out of 67,062 male examinees. The rate of absence in the exam is 1.59 per cent for girls and that 2.13 per cent for boys.

In Comilla board, 49.48 per cent passed out of 52,368 female examinees and 49.56 per cent passed out of 48,004 male examinees. The rate of absence in the exam is 1.16 per cent for girls and that 1.34 per cent for boys.

In Jessore board, 73.93 per cent passed out of 44,901 female examinees and 66.56 per cent passed out of 50,791 male examinees. The rate of absence in the exam is 7.83 per cent for girls and that 8.88 per cent for boys.

In Chittagong board, 62.65 per cent passed out of 40,911 female examinees and 59.55 per cent passed out of 41,503 male examinees. The rate of absence in the exam is 0.86 per cent for girls and that 1.09 per cent for boys.

In Barisal board, 73.41 per cent passed out of 29,147 female examinees and 67.36 per cent passed out of 31,339 male examinees. The rate of absence in the exam is 1.97 per cent for girls and that 2.67 cent for boys.

In Sylhet board, 73.36 per cent passed out of 35,122 female examinees and 70.39 per cent passed out of 29,878 male examinees. The rate of absence in the exam is 0.63 per cent for girls and that 0.91 per cent for boys.

In Dinajpur board, 68.39 per cent passed out of 49,673 female examinees and 62.81 per cent passed out of 55.727 male examinees. The rate of absence in the exam is 1.24 per cent for girls and that 2.04 per cent for boys.

In madrasha board, 76.60 per cent passed out of 41,654 female examinees and 77.33 per cent passed out of 57,666 male examinees. The rate of absence in the exam is 3.0 per cent for girls and that 2.2 cent for boys.

In technical board, 86.11 per cent passed out of 28,249 female examinees and 79.37 per cent passed out of 68,765 male examinees. All the candidates appeared in the examination.

In Dhaka Diploma in Business Studies, 82.45 per cent passed out of 986 female examinees and 68.62 per cent passed out of 3,630 male examinees. The rate of absence in the exam is 0.9 per cent for girls and that 1.28 per cent for boys.
