Islamic University officers abstained from work for the second consecutive day on Tuesday pushing for three demands, including increase in salary and retirement age extension.
About 200 officers under the banner of the IU Officers’ Association sat in in front of the university’s administrative building from 9:00am to 4:00pm. The protesters at the sit-in urged to the vice-chancellor to call for an emergency syndicate meeting to discuss their demands.
The association president Shamsul Islam Joha said that they would continue with their demonstration until their demands were met.
The demands are an increased pay scale, the extension of retirement age from 60 to 62 years and a change in working hours from 8:00am to 2:00pm instead of 9:00am to 4:30pm.
The association on June 25 had withdrawn their demonstration on assurances of meeting their demands.
