JUST teachers continue work abstention

Desk Report |

Teachers of of the Jessore University of Science and Technology continued work abstention for the seventh consecutive day on Friday protesting against Bangladesh Chhatra League assault on teachers. Chatra League activists attacked a human chain of teachers on the campus on January 12.

The human chain was organised to protest against threatening JUST Teachers’ Association president Iqbak Kabir Zahid by former BCL leader Anwar Hossain Bipul, the association members said.
Mohammed Nazmul Hasan, general secretary of teachers’ association, said they asked the authorities to expel responsible students and to take actions against the former BCL leader. ‘We’ll wait till Sunday then will go for tougher movement,’ he added.

Humaira Azmira Arin, general secretary of BCL Sheikh Hasina Hall unit, also the main accused for attacking the teachers’ human chain, told New Age that their movement was not against the teachers but for protecting interest of the students. She denied her involvement in the attack.

Earlier, a university statement said vice-chancellor Anwar Hossain sat with the teachers on Monday and declared Anwar Hossain Bipul ‘unacceptable’ on the campus. The meeting also asked teachers to go back to classes.
