On the occasion, the university authorities have chalked out day-long programmes to celebrate the day. In 1967, the institution was established as Khulna Engineering College on 101 acres of land but the academic activities started on June 3 in 1974, with 120 students under three departments at the special direction of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
However, it was upgraded as Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) in 1986 and was converted to Khulna University of Engineering & Technology on September 1 in 2003.
Now, the university has about 4,922 students and 295 teachers in 18 departments under three faculties, two research institutes and seven dormitories.
Due to Eid vacation, KUET authorities observed the founding anniversary yesterday instead of September 1.
