Probe by Bandar police station found no complicity of Jatiya Party MP AKM Salim Osman in public humiliation of Piyar Sattar Latif High School headmaster Shyamal Kanti Bhakta at Narayanganj on May 13.

Deputy attorney general Motahar Hossain Sazu told reporters that he returned the handwritten probe report and asked the police station’s officer-in-charge to present a computer composed report at the Attorney General’s Office for submission to the High Court Division.

OC Abul Kalam Azad, who had brought the report to the attorney general’s office, told New media that on Sunday the probe report would be submitted to the court of judicial magistrate at Narayanganj.

Beating and other public humiliation of the headmaster by Salim Osman and his supporters caused nationwide outrage.

A video clip showing the headmaster doing sit ups holding his ears as punishment prescribed by Salim Osman and his followers posted by the perpetrators on social media drew widespread protests from teachers, students and the civil society.

The protesters demanded exemplary punishments to the perpetrators.

On May 18, the High Court Division in a suo moto rule asked the police to explain to it what action was taken against Salim Osman and others for the outrageous misdeed.

As the police informed the High Court Division that taking action would depend on completion of ongoing probes, the court directed the police superintendent of Narayanganj and the OC to submit the probe report to it.

Sub inspector Moklesur Rahman told reporters that on investigation he found no evidence of Salim Osman’s complicity in publicly beating and humiliating the headmaster.

He said that he was assigned to probe the allegation after the OC recorded a general diary on the episode.

Motahar said that he expects to submit the probe report at the next hearing to be held by the bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Ashish Ranjah Das scheduled for August 11.

On June 9, the same bench directed the SP and the OC to submit a detailed probe report on the incident.
