A schoolgirl was gang-raped by miscreants in Sylhet on early Tuesday.
The family said some miscreants broke in their house at her house at Islampur of Golapganj upazila and raped the girl making her unconscious by applying sedative in her body.
They also tortured the victim and cut off her hair, the family said.
Later, they recovered the victim in an unconscious condition in the morning and took her to Golapganj Upazila Health Complex.
She was shifted to One-stop Crisis Centre of Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital on Wednesday afternoon as her condition deteriorated.
The family alleged that one of the perpetrators proposed to marry her and he, along with his associates, committed the crime as she refused his proposal.
Golapganj police officer-in-charge Fazlul Haque Shibli told reporters that the family filed a case against five to seven people including one Jasim and Masum, residents of Sharifganj, on Wednesday.
The officer said that a suspected rapist, Rubel, 25, son Ibrahim Ali of Kali Krishnapur of Golapganj, was arrested.
He was produced before a judicial magistrate court on Thursday and the court ordered the police to send him to jail, the OC said.
