Police arrested two Awami Juba League leaders of Kushtia sadar upazila unit in an extortion case on Friday night.
The arrested were identified as Juba League Kushtia town unit convener Ashraful Sujon, 40, and its general secretary also the former vice-president of Islamic University unit Chhatra League Mizanur Rahman Mizu, 36.
The two leaders of the Juba Leaue, youth wing of the ruling Awami League, were held hours of one of its central leader and government contractor SM Golam Kibria Shamim was arrested in Dhaka on allegations of tender manipulations and use of illegal arms.
Mizanur was arrested at Hasanbag School area in the upazila and Ashraful at Harishankarpur at around 9:00pm, Kushtia superintendent of police SM Tanvir Arafat said.
They were shown arrested in an extortion case filed by a local businessman with Islamic University police station, he added.
Alamin Joarder, a businessman, filed the extortion case against Mizanur and six others.
