Two students of two universities of US have been killed in killed in the attack by the Islamist militants in Dhaka. Besides, fate of a Bangladeshi private university student is still unknown in the same incident.
Tarushi Jain, a female student of the University of California (UC), Berkely was killed in the attack.
Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj said in a twitter post that an Indian citizen had been killed.
The victim was identified as 19- year-old Tarushi Jain, who studied at the University of California (UC), Berkely was an Indian national. Her parents stay in Dhaka for job purposes.
In same incident, Faraz Ayaz, a 20-year old Bangladeshi who studied in Emory University
Private university in Atlanta, Georgia was a Bangladeshi national. Faraz was the grand son of media and business tycoon Latifur Rahman. Latifur is the chairman of Transcom Group and also owner of the highest circulated English daily star and the prothom alo. Faraz came to Dhaka in summer vacation and was scheduled to fly next month.
Besides, fate of Maliha, a student of Northsouth University, Dhaka, is still unknown. Borhan, father of Maliha told the dainikshiksha.com Saturday. Maliha was accompanied by her three or four friends went to the restaurant for snacks. Maliha’s residence is adjacent to the hostage spot.
In the same incident, nine Italians and seven Japanese are among those killed in the attack by Islamist militants in the Bangladeshi capital, the governments of the countries have confirmed.
Another Italian was still unaccounted for, Italy’s Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni told reporters in Milan on Saturday.
The militants killed 20 people, most of them foreigners, inside an upmarket restaurant in Dhaka before security forces stormed the building and ended a 12-hour standoff on Saturday.
“We have identified nine (Italians) killed, there is another person who is missing and could be hiding himself or could be among wounded people … we are looking for him,” Gentiloni said.
Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga confirmed the number of Japanese citizens killed in the attack.
Earlier, Japan’s Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Koichi Hagiuda said one of its citizens was shot and wounded in the attack, while seven were missing.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said 13 hostages were rescued in the raid by army commandos.
Six attackers were killed and another was captured alive during the operation, she said.
Families say three Bangladeshis were among those killed in the attack on the café in Dhaka’s diplomatic heart in Gulshan on Friday evening, followed by a hostage situation that ended through the raid on Saturday morning.
Two policemen were killed after the attackers, who shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’, threw grenades at them in an early exchange of gunfire when the siege had begun.
