The High Court on Tuesday asked authorities to explain in four weeks why the Viqarunnisa Noon School and College’s special governing committee headed by Rashed Khan Menon MP would not be declared illegal.
A bench of Justice Zinat Ara and Justice KM Kamrul Kader issued the rule after hearing a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond challenging the legality of the governing committee. The education secretary, the committee’s president Rashed Khan Menon, Dhaka Educational Board’s chairman, and Dhaka Board inspector have been made respondents in the writ petition. Eunus submitted that the special governing committee was formed during the pendency of another ruling about the school’s original governing committee which was also lead by Rashed Khan Memon.
In 2012, Akand filed a writ changeling the legality of the special committee of the Viqarunnisa Noon School and College. After primary hearing of the writ on February 17, 2013, the HC had issued a rule to explain why the committee would not be declared illegal.
