An Evening with Saikat’s Family 

রায়হান স্যার ক্লাসে ঢুকে প্রতিদিনের মতো সবাইকে অভিবাদন জানিয়ে বললেন, আজ আমরা সৈকত নামে তোমাদের এক বন্ধু বগুড়ায় থাকে তার সম্পর্কে কিছু পড়ব এবং জানব। সে তোমাদের মতোই পঞ্চম শ্রেণিতে পড়ে। অনুমান করতো তার পছন্দের বিষয় কী হতে পারে? তার বাবা কী করেন? টেলিভিশনে সে সাধারণত কী দেখে? তোমরা মিনিট পাঁচেক চিন্তা কর।

শিক্ষার্থীরা নিজেদের মধ্যে কিছুক্ষণ আলোচনা করল। তারপর এক একজন করে প্রায় সবাই কিছু না কিছু বলতে চাইল। জিসান ও রুবি পর পর দাঁড়িয়ে এভাবে বললো-

জিসান: স্যার সৈকতের বাবা একজন শিক্ষক। 

রায়হান স্যার: ধন্যবাদ জিসান। 

রুরি: স্যার, সৈকত টেলিভিশনে কার্টুন দেখে। 

রায়হান স্যার: তাই নাকি! কি করে বুঝলে? 

রুবি: স্যার আমিও তো দেখি, তাই ভাবছি। 

(হো হো করে সমস্ত ক্লাস হেসে উঠল)
 
এবার রায়হান স্যার বললেন- Ok. Thank you all. Now let us see what Saikat’s father and mother are and we will learn some more information about Saikat. Open at page 15. Let me read the passage first.

Saikat lives with his parents in an apartment in Bogra. His father, Mr. Islam, is a banker. In his free time Mr. Islam writes stories. He loves listening to music of old times, too. Saikat’s mother, Maleka Begum is a housewife. She loves sewing in her free time. She makes dress. She often gets orders from her friends and neighbors. Saikat reads in class five. He is a good student. He wants to improve his English. So he watches cartoons on TV and reads English story books every day.

Now you read it silently for fifteen minutes. Try to read it three or four times or more than that. 

Now close the book. Let me write several sentences on the board. The sentences are not well organized. Rewrite them to make interrogative sentences and give their answers.

Example: does/ everyday/ what/ Saikat/ read

Ans: What does Saikat read every day? (It is an interrogative sentence). Saikat reads English story books every day. (It is the answer of the question).
 
Rewrite the words to make interrogative sentences and give their answers in 15 minutes. (নিচের এলোমেলো শব্দগুলো সাজিয়ে লিখলে একটি প্রশ্নবোধক বাক্য হবে। প্রশ্নবোধক বাক্য তৈরি করে উত্তরটিও লিখবে। ১৫ মিনিটের মধ্যে কাজটি করবে।)

(d) What kind of music does his father listen?/ His father listens music of old times.
(e) What is Saikat’s mother?/ Saikat’s mother is a housewife.
(f) What does she love?/ She loves sewing
(g) What does she make?/ She makes dress.

রায়হান স্যার এক একজন করে প্রায় সবাইকে বোর্ডে ডেকে এনে বাক্যগুলো উত্তরসহ লেখালেন। প্রায় সবাই লিখতে পেরেছে। পরে পুরো ক্লাসকে জোরে জোরে বাক্যগুলো পড়ালেন। তারপর বললেন যদি কারও কোনো সমস্যা থেকে থাকে তাহলে এবার বোর্ড থেকে লিখে নাও।

রায়হান স্যার আরও বললেন, আজ যেহেতু সময় নেই, তাই আমি আরও কয়েকটি বাক্য বোর্ডে লিখে দিচ্ছি, তোমরা বাসা থেকে করে নিয়ে আসবে, কেমন?

পরদিন: ৮ম ক্লাস

স্যার হোমওয়ার্কের খাতা বিভিন্ন বেঞ্চ থেকে বেশ কয়েকজনের দ্বারা পড়ালেন। সবাইকে আবার মৌখিক প্র্যাকটিস করালেন। ধন্যবাদ দিয়ে বললেন, তোমরা সবাই চমৎকার করেছ। তার পরেই জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, তোমরা বলতে পারো আমরা মুখে মুখে প্র্যাকটিস করলাম কেন?

শিক্ষার্থীরা বিভিন্নজন বিভিন্নভাবে উত্তর দিল। স্যার তাদেরকে ধন্যবাদ দিয়ে বললেন, তোমরা যথার্থই বলেছ। মুখে মুখে প্র্যাকটিস করলে একদিকে যেমন ইংরেজি বলার দক্ষতা বেড়ে যাবে তেমনি তোমাদের মধ্যে ইংরেজি বলার আত্মবিশ্বাস জন্মাবে।

রায়হান স্যার বললেন, এবার আমরা দেখব পরীক্ষায় এখান থেকে প্রশ্ন কীভাবে আসে এবং আমরা সেগুলো প্র্যাকটিস করব। আমি বোর্ডে লিখছি, তোমরাও আমার সাথে লিখ। যেটি সঠিক সেটিতে টিক দিবে। সবার লেখা হলে, এক একজন শিক্ষার্থীকে এক একটি প্রশ্ন করে সঠিক উত্তরটি দিতে বললেন। এভাবে পুরো ক্লাসে কয়েকবার প্র্যাকটিস করালেন। ধন্যবাদ দিয়ে রায়হান স্যার ক্লাস শেষ করলেন।
