Indian Border Security Force (BSF) returned two Bangladeshi madrasa students who had ‘mistakenly’ entered Indian Territory through Meherpur border yesterday morning.
According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sources, Abul Hashem, 16, son of Anisur Rahman, and Sultan Rahman, 16, son of Nazrul Islam of Barapukuria in Sherpur upazila of Bogra district, went to Mujibnagar Memorial Complex in Meherpur with other students of Sahanagar Islamic Madrasa in Sherpur on a study tour yesterday. They are Class IX students of the madrasa.
They crossed the border ‘mistakenly’ when they were walking near pillar No-105 of Mujibnagar border at around 11:30am, a BGB official said, quoting a written statement of Kayafuddin, a teacher of the madrasa.
The boys were detained by BSF team No-81 from Hridoynagar camp in Nadia district of Paschimbanga.
On a request by Kayafuddin, BGB Mujibnagar camp commander Subedar Rustam Ali contacted the BSF. A letter was also handed over to BSF, asking for a flag meeting.
BSF handed over the two boys at the flag meeting held near pillar No-105 at around 2:30pm. They were later handed over to the madrasa authorities.
