Desk Report |

The Dhaka University authorities on Thursday suspended 69 students for their alleged involvement in admission test forgery.

The decision was taken in a syndicate meeting on Thursday night with vice-chancellor M Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

The syndicate approved the university’s disciplinary council’s August 6 decision of suspending them giving them a chance to prove their innocence in a week. If they fail prove their innocence, they would be permanently expelled from the university.

Syndicate members present at Thursday’s meeting confirmed that they accepted this recommendation of the disciplinary council.

Vice-chancellor Akhtaruzzaman said, ‘69 students accused of fraud in the admission test have been temporarily expelled.  The syndicate accepted the recommendations of the disciplinary council.  The next steps will be taken as per their recommendations.’

These 69 suspended students were admitted to the university through fraud from 2012-13 academic year to 2017-18 academic year. All of them were implicated by the Criminal Investigation Department of the police.

The CID on June 23 submitted two charge sheets in the court against 125 people, including 87 students of the university under several clauses of Information and Communications Act and the Public Examination Act for leaking out question paper and fraud in the admission test.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Md Sarafuzzaman Ansari issued a warrant for arrest of 77 persons on June 26 in the question leakage case.

He ordered to inform the court on July 30 whether the accused being arrested as the warrant had been issued against them.
