Amid street demonstration by hundreds of students, the University of Dhaka has scheduled the exams for seven affiliated colleges.

Students of the seven colleges in Dhaka have clashed with police on Thursday during an earlier scheduled street demonstration at the capital’s Shahbagh.

IK Selim Ullah Khandakar, principal of Kabi Nazrul Government College (one of the seven colleges), told dainikshiksha.com that the exam dates were finalised during the July 18 meeting between DU VC AAMS Arefin Siqqidue and the principals of the seven colleges.

Khandakar said that authorities of the seven colleges have started notifying students of the schedule on Thursday.

He said that the master’s final exams has been scheduled for Sep 10, honours third-year exams October 16 and pass course first and third year exams on November 4.

The meeting also decided to hold the first-year exams of pass course and master’s first and final year exams for privately registered students between July 25 and August 29.

Seven government colleges — Dhaka College, Eden Women’s College, Badrunnesa College, Government Titumir College, Kabi Nazrul Islam College, Shaheed Suhrawardy College and Mirpur Bangla College — have been brought under the University of Dhaka in February this year.

Academic and administrative matters of these colleges, which had been affiliated with the National University, hit a snag after the change.

On Thursday, students of the seven colleges blocked the key intersection of Shahbagh and started demonstrating.

Police dispersed the students by lobbing tear gas shells and charging batons. 11 protesters have also been detained.
