Four students, one teacher held for Hizb-ut-Tahrir link

Members of Rapid Action Battalion arrested four university students and a teacher of a coaching centre from Pirerbagh of Mirpur area in the capital for their alleged link with banned extremist outfit Hizb-ut-Tahrir RAB officials said on Sunday.

The arrested are Tareq Mohammad Faisal, 30, of Patarchar of Muladi in Barishal, Tanvir Ahmed, 21, of Deyaridanga of Mokshedpur in Gopalganj, Mostofa Morsaleen Prangona, 22, and Md Farabi Khan Anik, 21, both of Uttar Pirerbagh of Mirpur and Dhaka, Zaminur Reza alias Nabin, 26, of Batajor of Haraganj in Mymensingh, all members of Hizb-ut-Tahrir, according to a press release issued by RAB legal and media wing Of the arrested, Tareq was a teacher of a coaching centre in the capital’s Kalyanpur area.

Tanvir is a 2nd year honours student of Marketing department of Mirpur University College, Mostafa is a 3rd year honours student of Finance department of the same college, Farabi is a 3rd year honours student of Mathematics department of Dhaka University and Zaminur is a 3rd year honours student of Finance department of Tejgaon College, according to the press release.

It said that a team of RAB-4 arrested the five on Saturday night from a location of Pirerbagh in the city’s Mirpur area while they were planning sabotage in a meeting.

The RAB personnel also seized different types of leaflets and contents of books, ideology and writings preserved in laptop and pen-drive that encourage extremism from their possession, it added.
