Chittagong Correspondent       |

The MBBS students of University of Science and Technology Chittagong on Monday (17th April) staged demonstration again on the campus as they did not get any confirmation about their registration under Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council.

The university’s pro-vice-chancellor professor Nurul Absar and registrar Badrul Amin Bhuiyan resigned from their posts amid fresh agitation of the students as the authorities could not resolve the issue.

The agitated students demonstrated on the campus from 10:00am. Later, they blocked Jakir Hossain Road, adjacent to the university, from 11:00am to 11:30am. The students also besieged the university registrar, Badrul Amin Bhuiyan, for an hour at his office. Later, the registrar resigned from his post.

Pro-vice-chancellor professor Nurul Absar told that he resigned as the high authorities of the university could not resolve the problem yet.

‘I have sent a resignation letter to the VC through email’, said Nurul Absar.

He also said he heard the news about resignation of the registrar.

This correspondent could not reach the registrar after trying his mobile for his comment over the issue but got a copy of his resignation letter from the office of the university vice-chancellor.

Md Jabed, a student of MBBS 25th batch, told that they demonstrated as they did not get any response from the university authorities on the issue.

Students of the USTC, a private institution, had been demonstrating from January 10, 2017 for their registration under Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council.

Earlier in 2014, the students also demonstrated on the campus for the same issue. Then the university was closed for near three months.

No class, examination and administrative activities were held at the university from January this year.

Recently ministry of health fined the university Tk 10 crore as they admitted students beyond their admissible number. The BMDC will give registration of the students if the university authorities pay the fine. The last date to pay the fine was March 22, 2017. But the authorities did not pay the fine till Monday, said the students.
