Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) would implement a project for improvement of nursing practicum in Bangladesh with the support of Kochi University of Japan.
President of Kochi University of Japan Hiroko Minami during a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Tejgaon office here on April 13 discussed the project.
PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said the project would be implemented under a JICA project for capacity building of nursing services in Bangladesh.
Under the project the Kochi University would introduce a graduation course on nursing for improvement of practical section of course of nursing studies, he said.
During the meeting the Prime Minister highlighted her government’s initiatives for development of nursing sector. She said the nursing sector was neglected in the past, but her government is giving more incentives and encouraging this profession.
She said the government has also created opportunities for private institutions and hospitals to provide nursing education. She said two more universities are being established in Bangladesh where graduation course on nursing would be conducted.
Giving an outline over the country’s success in health sector the Prime Minister said all those steps helped reduce mother and child mortality rate remarkably.
PM’s International Affairs Secretary Dr Gawher Rizvi, PMO secretary Suraiya Begum, Japanese envoy to Bangladesh Masato Watanabe and JICA country representative in Bangladesh Mikio Hataeda were present.
