Singapore will train 1150 polytechnic institute teachers and technical education related persons of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh signed a partnership agreement with Singapore in this regard today, said a press release.
In the presence of Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid in Singapore, Bangladesh Department of Technical Education Director General Ashok Kumar Biswas and Singapore Nanian Polytechnic International Chief Executive Officer Fung Tej Fun signed the deal on behalf of their respective countries.
According to the agreement, 1150 polytechnic institute teachers and technical education related persons will take part in one to six week-long 60 training programmes in Singapore in next three years.
It is also mentioned in the agreement that Singapore will set up 10 modern laboratories in 10 polytechnic institutes in Bangladesh.
A total of Taka 56 crore will be spent for conducting the training programmes and setting up laboratories, of which Nanian Polytechnic International will give 31.15 percent while the government of Bangladesh 68.85 percent.
Speaking at the agreement signing ceremony, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid thanked the government of Singapore for giving assistance to technical education in Bangladesh.
He said the new deal with Singapore will further improve the environment of technical education in Bangladesh.
The minister said the rate of technical education students was less than 1 percent in Bangladesh in 2009 which has now increased to 12 percent.
Bangladesh has a plan to increase this rate to 12 percent by 2020, he said, adding that the assistance of Singapore will be helpful in this regard.
