JU vice-chancellor mourns death of student

Jahangirnagar University vice-chancellor Professor Farzana Islam on Saturday expressed profound shock at the death of Mahmud Bin Ashraf Pranto, a first year student of philosophy department of the university.

Mahmud, 21, resident of Meherpur district, died after an iron rod fell on him at a construction site in Dhanmondi in the capital on Friday night. In a condolence message, Professor Farzana Islam said, ‘Mahmud enroled in our university with the dream to establish himself as an enlightened person.’

The vice-chancellor prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Mahmud’s body was brought to the university campus on Saturday from Dhaka Medical College Hospital. His first namaz-e-janaza was held at the university’s Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall and the second on the New Arts building premises.
