Teachers seek PM’s intervention for timely promotion of nurses

Staff Correspondent |

Teachers of nursing colleges yesterday sought the prime minister’s intervention for timely promotion of nurses working in government hospitals.

No nurse was promoted to grade I position from grade II since 2005, they said, adding that the entire nursing sector is run without considering the value of experience and commitment.

Bangladesh Basic Nursing College Teachers’ Association leaders made the remarks at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity.

In her written speech, Gulshan Ara, the association’s secretary general, said the prime minister in 2011 announced that diploma nurses would be promoted to second grade positions and nurses already in the second grade position would be regularised in first grade position.

Gulshan Ara also urged the authorities concerned to recruit 10,000 nurses as per the prime minister’s promise in 2011.
