International University of Business Agriculture and Technology agricultural science Professor Mohammed Ataur Rahman claims that he is growing black grapes on the university campus at Uttara in Dhaka under a successful experiment.

The professor told that he had been trying to grow black grapes in Bangladesh since 1997. ‘Finally, I have been successful in growing sweet black grapes for the first time in Bangladesh,’ he said, adding that he had grown a total of seven plants of sweet grapes on IUBAT campus.

Ataur Rahman, also director of IUBAT Centre for Global Environmental Culture and Program on Education for Sustainability, said that the grapes took about four months from flowering to harvest. Bangladesh usually imports grapes from Egypt, India, Australia and California.
