BCSIR Science Fair 2016 begins in Rajshahi

Bangladesh Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) opened a three-day science fair-2016 on its Rajshahi campus on Sunday.

The fair with the slogan ‘in search of young scientists’ was inaugurated by Prof. Habibur Rahman, Principal of Rajshahi College, as the chief guest with BCSIR Rajshahi campus Director-in-Charge Dr Monsur Rahman in the chair.

Main thrust of the fair is to encourage the young scientists alongside flourishing their innovative talents and building a science minded nation.

The speakers said a substantial and sustainable boosting the number of science-minded students has become indispensable for flourishing the sector of information and communication technology.

They viewed that there is no way but to wide-ranging promotion of the science and technology sector to take forward the nation successfully.

The discussants referred to various aspects of expanding science education towards doorsteps of both rural and urban students and said there is no alternative of acquiring scientific knowledge to devise ways and means how to make the nation technologically advanced.

They called for making the students and others science minded for building a technology and knowledge-based nation. The educational institutions should take the responsibility of enriching the students with scientific knowledge.

“To build a science-minded atmosphere: Technology is only the way of progress” should be our main slogan, they added.

A total of 50 schools, colleges and science clubs are participating in the fair with more than 100 projects. Participants, divided into three age groups, will compete for the best award in the fair, the speakers told the participants.

The juvenile scientists are displaying their optimum projects that include power generation using biogas and solar power and Wi-Fi controlling system.

One of the BCSIR officials said the fair will remain open for visitors from 10:00am to 5:00pm every day.
