Arrest of college student Maruf's killers demanded

Desk Report |

Relatives and friends of college student Maruf Khan, who had been killed by stalkers, formed a human chain in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, on Thursday afternoon demanding immediate arrest and punishment of the perpetrators.

Local people, activists and leaders of different socio-political organizations, including Bangladesh Chhatra League, took part in the programmes held in Genda Bus Stand area beside the Dhaka-Aricha highway.

Earlier on August 21, Maruf, a student of Dhaka Commerce College, was stabbed to death by stalkers at the bus stand for protesting harassment of his classmate Muna.

Participants at the human chain expressed their deep sympathy to the family of deceased Maruf.

In the human chain, eve-teasing victim Muna said, "I demand exemplary punishment to the killers, so that no other girl falls victim to such harassment and no parents lose their child."

Seeking protection, Muna also said that the murderers of Maruf have been threatening her and her family members in different ways since a case was lodged with Savar Police Station over Maruf's murder.
