JNU teacher fired for sexual harassment

Jagannath University has sacked its journalism teacher Mir Moshref Hossain, popularly known as Razib Mir, for sexually harassing several female students.

Razib was an associate professor at the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Jagannath University and was suspended on April 28 when the first investigation committee found him guilty. On April 5, 2016, a female student of journalism accused Razib of sexual harassment. The student had submitted various evidence, including phone call recordings.

On Sunday July 9, the university syndicate took the decision at its 74th meeting after Razib Mir was deemed guilty by three separate investigation committees, the university vice-chancellor Mizanur Rahman said. This incident marks the first dismissal of a teacher by the university authority for sexual abuse.

Also on Sunday, the university syndicate served a show cause notice to Md Abdul Halim Pramanik, associate professor of the Department of Theater, for sexually harassing one his his students.
