Month long street play against drug abuse continues at CU

With the slogan “Say no to drug, yes to life”, a month-long street play is going on at Chittagong University (CU) with an aim to create awareness among students about the adverse effects of drug addiction. 

The street play named Song for Life (Jiboner Joyogan) was performed by the Dramatics Department was staged at BBA Faculty premises and the university's Zero Point area on the inaugural day on Wednesday.

CU VC Professor Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury inaugurated the event while Pro VC Shireen Akhter, Proctor Ali Asgar Chowdhury, Associate Professor Ashim Das and Kuntal Barua of Dramatics Department were also present at the programme.

The play was planned and directed by Shamim Hasan, assistant professor of Dramatics Department. Students of the department acted in the characters of the play.

The play starts with a song which described the negative sides of drug addiction. It tells the story of a middle- class family where the parents often fight with each other on silly matters in front of their only daughter. The fight between the parents creates emotional troubles for the daughter, leading her to take drugs.

On Sunday, the play was staged at Shamsunnahar hall in the evening and the next show will be staged at Suhrawardy hall at the same time after Durga Puja vacation.

The play will be staged at parts of the campus and dormitories till November 11.
