Police conduct security drive at 4 RU halls

Desk Report |
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police on Saturday night conducted security drives at four residential halls of Rajshahi University whereas general students claimed they did not search the rooms of Bangladesh Chhatra League activists.

Four teams of RMP led by Motihar Police Station officials operated the drives at Sher-e Bangla Fazlul Haque Hall, Shah Mukhdum Hall, Syed Amer Ali Hall and Motihar Hall from 10:30pm to 12:00 midnight. No arms were recovered and none were arrested during the drives.

Residential students, however, claimed that RMP men along with BCL activists searched the halls except the rooms of BCL men.
Proctor professor Lutfor Rahman said that law enforcers operated the raids considering overall security of RU students ahead of the national election.

Motihar Police Station officer-in-charge (investigation) Mahbub Alam, who led the raid at Motihar Hall, said that the drives were part of ensuring security measures ahead of the national election. ‘We’ve searched for outsiders and weapons,’ the OC said adding that they would raid rest of the halls. RU BCL General Secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu said, ‘Police searched the rooms they had suspected. We merely cooperated with them.’
