Promoting Maritime education : TIO and DU sign MoU

Authorities of the Dhaka University and Third Institute of Oceanography, China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 24 April aiming to promote education and research on oceanography.

The MoU was singed at Dhaka University Vice-chancellor’s office where treasurer of DU Professor Kamal Uddin and Director General of TIO Professor Yu Xingguang signed on behalf of their respective institutions.

According to the MoU, University of Dhaka and the Third Institute of Oceanography, China will jointly conduct research on various environmental issues including oceanography and marine science. The two academic institutions will also organize seminars, conferences and academic meetings in this regard. Besides, they will conduct joint Masters and PhD programs.

Chairman of the Department of Oceanography, University of Dhaka Professor Kawser Ahmed confirmed the  dainikshiksha.com about the signing ceremony.

Chinese Vice-Minister Zhang Hongsheng, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Nasreen Ahmad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Shahid Akhtar Hossain and Dean of the Faculty of Earth & Environmental Sciences Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal were present there.

Besides, Vice-Director General of First Institute of Oceanography, China Prof. Sun Yongfu, Vice-Director General of Island Research Center Prof. Gao Wen and Representatives from Chinese Embassy in Dhaka were also present at the occasion.
