The University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) on Thursday (June 8) approved the original budget and revised budget of Tk 3788.97 crore and Tk 3843.54 crore respectively for 2016-2017 fiscal year for all the 37 public universities of the country.
Chaired by the Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan, UGC, the regulator of higher educational institutions in its 147th Full Commission meeting held also approved the original budget and
revised budget of Tk 35.05 crore and Tk 36.23 crore respectively for 2016-2017 fiscal year for UGC.
The UGC also approved the original budget of Tk 4151.51 crore for 37 public universities and Tk.
37.30 crore for UGC for 2017-2018 fiscal year. The Commission has increased budgetary allocation
for public universities and UGC by 9.54 percentage compared to previous year. UGC Secretary Dr.
Md. Khaled placed the budget in the meeting.
It may be mentioned here that the allocation for research at university level for 2016-2017 fiscal year in original budget was Tk. 28.97 crore while the allocation for research for 2017-2018 fiscal year was Tk. 61.55 crore, which is 112.46 percentage increase compared to previous year.
The meeting adopted a condolence proposal over death of Md. Moniruzzaman, retired Join-Secretary, UGC.
