Buet students continue protests

Desk Report |

Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) today continued their protest for the fifth consecutive day to press home their 16-point demand including cancellation of the new recruitment order of director of student's welfare.

The protesters  are boycotting all the academic activities and have locked up the administrative building and the office of the university’s vice chancellor.

They staged a sit-in in front of the campus's Shaheed Minar from 11:00am to 2:30pm today, our Dhaka University correspondent reports from the spot.

The authorities have not given any assurance to the students as of yet.

However, the Teachers' Association of the university has given a statement urging the university authorities to solve the crisis as soon as possible.

The association also expressed concern over the impasse in their statement.

The students have been demonstrating since Saturday for formation of a special committee to build the Buet gate, introducing teacher evaluation system, digitalising students’ payment process, increasing allocation in research sector and recruitment of a student-friendly director of student's welfare among others.
