DU recommends suspension of 6 BCL men

Dhaka University (DU) authorities today recommended expulsion of one and suspension of six activists of the university unit Bangladesh Chhatra League.

A DU disciplinary board took the decision at a meeting with VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman in the chair, said DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani.

They were suspended for their involvement in assaulting Ehsan Rafiq, a student of  Salimullah Muslim Hall, on February 6.

“We made the recommendation after scrutinsing the report of probe body formed over the incident which found involvement of the students in that incident,” he said adding that the recommendation would be sent to the syndicate for approval.

The board recommended suspension of two years for the BCL activists Ruhul Amin Bappery, Fardin Ahmed Mugdho,Samiul Islam Sami, Ahsan Ullah andMehedi Hasan Himel for beating up the student while one-year suspension of the BCL hall unit vice-president Ariful Islam for instigating his fellow activists.

Assistant secretary Omar Faruk, who initiated the attack on Ehsan, has been recommended for expulsion.

Earlier, on February 6, the BCL activists beat up Ehsan Rafiq, a second-year student of disaster management and science department, leaving his right eye grievously injured as he asked Omar Faruk to return the calculator that the latter borrowed from him three months back.
