International Green Conference held at DU

DU NAWAB ALI SENATEBHABANA day-long international conference on “Green Banking for Green Industry & Green Energy” held at the Nabab Nowab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university today (Saturday).

The Institute of Energy of Dhaka University (DU) and Green-tech Foundation jointly organized the programe.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the conference as chief guest, a DU press release said today.

Executive Director and CEO of Infrastructure Development Company Limited Mahmood Malik presided over the inaugural session while Green Man of Germany Matthias Gelber delivered the key-note speech.

Executive Director and CEO of Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited SM Formanul Islam addressed it as special guest. Director of the Institute of Energy of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Saiful Huque delivered the welcome address.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique stressed the need for popularization of green energy for sustainable peace, harmony and development.

Terming solar, biogas and wind as important energy sources the VC said these can play a central role in energy revolution. He said, “We need to go fast with our solar, wind and hydro power projects to attain self-sufficiency in clean energy.”

Prof Arefin said Dhaka University authorities are relentlessly trying to strengthen capacity to develop green energy locally.

The VC said, “The Prime Minister always guides us to innovate and use green energy so that our environment remains green and clean.”

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is a great champion of green energy.

The United Nations General Assembly gave the Premier the highest environmental award ‘Champions of the Earth Trophy’ in its last session in New York, the VC pointed out.
