Medical admission retake to cost 5 marks: SC

Staff Reporter |

The Supreme Court today cleared way for the government to penalise second-time medical and dental college admission takers.

Chamber judge of the Appellate Division stayed for six weeks, a High Court order that stayed the government decision to deduct five marks from those who would retake the tests.

Chamber Judge Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order following a petition filed by the government seeking stay on the High Court order.

The chamber judge also asked the government to file a leave to appeal petition with the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order.

The High Court on September 12 stayed a government decision to deduct marks from second time admission seekers in response to a writ petition that termed the penalty discriminatory.

The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned of the government to explain why the decision to deduct five marks should not be declared illegal.

The MBBS admission test is scheduled for October 6. For dental colleges, the admission test is scheduled for November 10.
