Record 21,111 graduates to attend DU convocation on Oct 6

A total of 21,111 graduates will attend the 51th convocation of Dhaka University (DU), the biggest in its history, to be held on Saturday. President Abdul Hamid, also the Chancellor of the university, will preside over the gala event at the central playground on DU campus.

National Professor Anisuzzaman will be present as the convocation speaker. The programme will begin at 11:00am. Graduates can collect their certificates after completion of the convocation ceremony.

Registered graduates of the 7 affiliated colleges of Dhaka University will also participate in this convocation for the first time.

There will be two extended venues at two of the DU affiliated colleges–Eden Mohila College and Dhaka College where around 4,000 graduates will participate. They will be connected with the main venue through digital technology.

In the convocation, a total of 96 gold medals will be distributed among students and teachers for their outstanding academic results and contributions.

A total of 96 researchers were conferred with Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees and 81 got Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degrees. Teachers and students of DU and the affiliated colleges have already collected their invitation cards and academic costumes.

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman today exchanged views with journalists about the convocation at a press conference at the Abdul Matin Virtual Classroom on DU campus. He said that all preparations for the convocation ceremony have already been completed. The overall security of the event has also been ensured.

“The convocation day is the most important day in the life of the students. Through this program, they receive academic certificates and medals”, Akhtaruzzaman added.

He sought cooperation of all to make the convocation a success and requested the people to use alternative roads of the university on the day.
