Madrassah teacher held for ‘abusing boy sexually’

Police on Sunday night arrested a madrassah teacher on charge of sexual abuse of a nine-year old boy at a Qawmi madrassah in Baganpara area of Chuadanga.

The arrestee is Jahurul Islam, son of late Abdul Hamid Mollah, hailing from Chhatiyantola Rajapur village in Jashore.

Abu Zihad Fakhrul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge of Chuadanga sadar police station, said that Arabic teacher Jahurul Islam of Sharmina Haque Hafizia Qawmi Madrassah called the class-one student at his room on the night of Shab-e-Barat, April 21, 2019, and abused the boy sexually. Later, he gave the boy Tk 10 to hide the incident.

When the incident came to light in the morning, the matter was informed to the madrassah governing body. However, they did not take any initiative for last one week in this regard.

As the news spread, hundreds of local people surrounded the madrassah demanding punishment of the teacher.

On information, police arrested the teacher from the madrassah at night.

Additional superintendent of police Kanai Lal Sarker and Sadar upazila nirbahi officer Washimul Bari visited the spot and talked with students and locals. Police said process of filing a case is underway.
